Studio Kiwi Members
Welcome to our Clay Community
Being a member at Studio Kiwi means benefiting from a Subscription that gives you access to our ceramics workshop during our weekly sessions reserved for members. During these sessions, the workshop and all its materials are at your disposal. A member of our team is always present to welcome you, guide you in the workshop and support you in your personal projects if you need it.
These member sessions are not "classes", but rather 2:30 - 3 hour creative sessions where you can reserve a work table or a potter's wheel (depending on the introductory course you took). You will have the freedom to find your rhythm in working with clay, to juggle your pieces at different consistencies and to master the different techniques while learning from other members and through trial and error. And yes, that's what ceramics is all about!
Ideal after having followed one of our introductory courses
Since ceramics is a technical art, we want to make sure that each member begins their clay adventure well prepared and that they have the necessary foundations for a good use of our workshop (know-how and safety). This is why we ask anyone wishing to become a member to first follow one of our introductory courses:
👉 Introduction to Hand-building Pottery 👈
👉 Introduction to Throwing on the Potter's Wheel 👈
👉 Introduction class to Glazing in our Studio 👈
If you already have a good experience with clay and would like to join our community of members directly, send us an email detailing your journey. We want to make sure that each member is supported equally, so we want to avoid beginners, who naturally need more support at the beginning of their adventure, joining the member sessions directly.
How do the "Member Sessions" work ?
These member sessions at the studio are not "classes," but rather creative periods of 2.5 to 3 hours where you can reserve a work table or a pottery wheel (depending on the introduction course you have taken). It’s a chance to find your rhythm in working with clay, manage your pieces at different stages of consistency, master various techniques while learning from other members and through trial and error. Yes, that’s what ceramics is all about!
In the studio space :
Member sessions are not set up as "classes," but rather as an opportunity for you to work autonomously on your clay projects, using all the tools and equipment available in our shared studio. You'll be inspired by other members around you, and you can get technical support from a friendly staff member if needed.
Learn at Your Own Pace:
Member session are not set up as a 'class' format, but a chance for you to learn and work more autonomously on your clay projects, using all the tools and equipment in our shared studio, inspired by other members around you, and with the technical support of friendly staff when needed.
In the Studio:
🔸 Each work table or pottery wheel is equipped with a kit of fundamental tools needed for hand-building, throwing, trimming, or glazing. Our shelves provide additional tools and equipment.
🔸 5 types of stoneware clays and porcelain are available for purchase by the kilo (recycled or directly from a Belgian quarry).
🔸 There are 12 colored slips (engobes) and more than 18 glazes to choose from.
🔸 Firing fees are calculated based on the volume of each piece before bisque firing (at a preferential rate for pieces made during Member Sessions).
🔸 We ask all members to follow our safety tips to ensure we can continue pottering in a safe and serene environment.
Team:
A qualified ceramicist is always present in the studio to welcome you, guide you in the studio and with the tools, support your projects technically if needed, and ensure the general order of the workshop. Our team members are all bilingual, either English-French or English-Dutch, with the goal of welcoming you in the language you are most comfortable with.
Storage :
As a small studio, storage needs to be well-managed. We provide personal storage space for members during their membership, but not for those who book a one-off member session. Personal storage boxes must be emptied and cleaned at the end of your membership.
Membership Pass :
For better value and regular ceramic practice, we recommend purchasing member sessions with one of our 👉 Membership Passes 👈
Booking just 1 member Session :
It is also possible to book just one member session for those who need to glaze their last pieces or finish a project. This is not intended for one-time or sporadic use, as there are at least 3 different stages in the ceramic process, each requiring attention and storage space.
