Studio Mates
Welcome to the new Studio Kiwi community
Being a Studio Mate at Studio Kiwi means enjoying independent access to our ceramics studio for 12 weeks. The studio and all its equipment are yours to use during the scheduled sessions.
A ceramicist is always present in the studio for safety, general upkeep, and occasional guidance if you need it. But this is not a taught course: you work at your own pace, on your own projects, independently.
These sessions are 3-hour creative practice slots where you find your rhythm with clay, manage your pieces at different stages of progress, and master techniques through repetition and observation of fellow Studio Mates.
And yes, that is what ceramics is all about! ✨
What is included :
👉 Maximum 20 Studio Mates per trimester
👉 Around thirty 3-hour sessions over the 12 weeks
👉 Half a personal shelf to store your pieces and tools
👉 Access to all ceramics equipment
👉 Access to other studio machines at a small extra cost
👉 A ceramicist on hand (no structured teaching, but available for advice)
👉 Clay and slips for trimester projects
👉 Stoneware and porcelain available to buy by the kilo
👉 Use of our colored slips, underglazes and glazes
👉 Firing charged by volume at the Studio Mate rate for trimester pieces
Ideal after completing one of our Trimester courses!
Ceramics is a technical art. We want to make sure every Studio Mate begins their journey well prepared, with the necessary skills for safe and confident use of the studio (know-how and safety).
That is why we ask anyone wishing to join the Quarterly plan to have completed one of our introductory courses first:
👉 Introduction to Hand-Building or equivalent
👉 Introduction to Wheel-Throwing or equivalent
&
👉 Introduction to Glazing or equivalent
If you already have solid clay experience and would like to join the community directly, send us an email detailing your background.
How does it work?
Practice at your own pace :
Sessions are not organised in a "course" format. It is independent access to a shared studio, inspired by the other Studio Mates and course students around you, with a ceramicist present for occasional guidance if you need it.
In the studio :
👉 Each work table or potter's wheel is equipped with a kit of essential tools
👉 Several types of stoneware and porcelain are available to buy by the kilo
👉 Several colored slips, underglazes and glazes are available
👉 Firing fees are calculated by volume (preferential rate for trimester pieces)
👉 All Studio Mates are expected to follow our safety and cleanliness guidelines
Team :
A ceramicist is always present in the studio for safety, general upkeep, and occasional technical advice.
Storage :
We provide half a personal shelf and two boxes for the duration of the trimester. The shelf must be emptied and cleaned at the end of the trimester.
Guided Trimester Courses :
If you would prefer a structured course, we offer guided places:
👉 8 spots on the Hand-Building course (per trimester)
👉 8 spots on the Wheel-Throwing course (per trimester)
These courses take place during the same slots as the Studio Mate sessions. A ceramicist teaches a structured class to 8 students, while Studio Mates and Residents practise independently.
Just one session?
No. The new model does not allow the purchase of single sessions. Studio access is exclusively by trimester.
