Service Description
Coil throwing is a hybrid technique that blends hand-building and slow wheel work. During this one-day workshop, youโll learn how to create bold, expressive forms by stacking large coils of clay directly on your wheel. Itโs one of Catalina's favorite techniques : it invites slowness, flow, and focus. It opens up new possibilities for volume and texture, allowing you to create pieces with presence and character. Youโll leave with a one-of-a-kind piece, whether functional or sculptural, up to 40 cm tall. ๐ PROGRAM ๐ Throughout the day, youโll explore how to: ๐ Roll and prepare strong, even coils ๐ Build up your form layer by layer on the wheel ๐ Control proportions, shape tension, and wall thickness ๐ Smooth, refine, or texture your surfaces ๐ PRICE ๐ ๐ธ The price includes all the clay, the studio tools and the full day of guidance. ๐ธ The firings and time required for glazing your work are not included in the workshop fee. (See the "Glazing & Finishing" section below) Youโll have two options: ๐ฅ Have your piece fired at Studio Kiwi (price based on volume) ๐งณ Take your piece home to fire it elsewhere (e.g., another studio or school) ๐ SMALL GROUP ๐ We keep the group to a maximum of 6 participants, ensuring a hands-on experience and plenty of individual guidance. Thatโs just 12 hands at work, all centered around clay. ๐ GLAZING & FINISHING ๐ About 15 days after the workshop, your piece will be bisque-fired to 950ยฐC (if you decided you wanted it fired at Studio Kiwi). Youโll then be invited to glaze it at your own pace : ๐ธ If you haven't glazed in our studio, sign up for a Glazing Intro Class (more info in our "Intro Courses" menu). ๐ธ If you've already been introduced to glazing in our studio, book a table during a Member Session (with or without a Membership Pass). โ ๏ธ TERMS AND CONDITIONS โ ๏ธ ๐ธ If you'd like to refine your piece after the workshop, you can book time during a Member Session (table or wheel) โ this is not included in the course fee. ๐ธ Please review our cancellation policy carefully below.
Cancellation Policy
๐ Cancellation Policy : Our workshops fill up quickly and rely on a minimum number of participants to run. To ensure fairness for both our participants and instructors, the following policy applies: ๐ฅ 1. Cancellation by You All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing to info@studio-kiwi.com. ๐ธ More than 2 weeks before the workshop date:\ Full refund minus a 10% administrative fee, or rescheduled at no cost. ๐ธ Between 1 and 2 weeks before the workshop date:\ 50% of the workshop fee refunded, minus a 10% administrative fee.\ ๐ If a replacement is found for your spot (by you or Studio Kiwi), the workshop can be rescheduled at no cost. ๐ธ Less than 1 week before the workshop date:\ The workshop fee is non-refundable and cannot be rescheduled.\ ๐ If a replacement is found for your spot (by you or Studio Kiwi), the workshop can be rescheduled at no cost. ๐ธ No-shows:\ If you do not attend without notifying us in advance, the workshop fee is forfeit with no refund, no credit, and no rescheduling. ๐ฅ 2. Cancellations by Studio Kiwi If we need to cancel a workshop before it takes place, you will receive a full refund. We will do our best to notify you as soon as possible and to find a new date. ๐ธ If the minimum number of participants is not reached, we will contact you at least 24 hours in advance to offer a full refund or a new date. By registering for a workshop, you acknowledge and accept the terms of this cancellation policy.
